Key points to be aware of are:
- A business’ eligibility will be based on its registration with its local authority and rateable value as at 11 March 2020 (para 15 and 23).
- It will be the “ratepayer”, as recorded on the authority’s records, that will be eligible for the grant (para 30).
- Landlords are urged to ensure that the correct ratepayer is identified to the local authority (para 32).
- Annex B illustrates the information that local authorities will need to collect in order to establish eligibility. It is likely that businesses will be asked to deliver this information through an online portal.
